It’s been an interesting year. Another birthday has come and gone during a pandemic and I am transitioning into a new phase of life. If all goes as planned, I’ll be making a fresh start in a new city this Summer.
During the pandemic and social isolation, like so many others, I took time to develop some new skills and revive old interests. I was fortunate to find online classes through Main Line Art Center and develop some drawing skills. I also used CreativeBug.com to take classes in art journaling, line drawing, painting with acrylic ink and multimedia.
Austin Kleon’s posts, newsletter and books continued to bring me wonderful new material and inspiration. Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way was a Godsend this past year. For the first time in a long time I have a regular writing habit and have been keeping up with doing “Morning Pages” since September of 2020. As Austin Kleon says, “Is this some Hippie Shit? Yes. But, as Oliver notes, it is Hippie Shit that seems to work!”
I still work from home as a Senior Developer. Most of what I do is SQL development with healthcare data. Datacamp and Udemy are still my go-tos for learning about Python, Web Development, Visual Thinking and various other technical subjects.
As the pandemic winds down and we get vaccinated, I’m looking forward to re-engaging with the world in person. In particular, I’ve missed coffee shops, libraries, and my favorite restaurants. Thanks for reading and hope you are happy and healthy!
